On the occasion, Google dedicates its doodle to one of the smallest creature on earth – the honeybees.

The doodle features a play button. As the user clicks on it, it shows a small video to aware us about the importance of honeybees as they play a vital role for world’s crops through pollination.

The art of today’s doodle was led by Doodler Gerben Steenks, with engineering by Doodlers Jacob Howcroft and Stephanie Gu.

Why Earth Day celebrated?

Earth Day is an annual global event, observed on April 22, that celebrates the environmental movement and raises awareness about pollution and ways to maintain a clean habitat.

Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson came up with the idea for a national day to focus on the environment after Nelson, then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, witnessed the ravages of a massive oil spill in California, in 1969.

How can we keep Earth clean?

Various suggestions are brought to light about recycling, energy conservation, increasing plant and tree growth, save water, respect nature, reduce toxins in the air, keep the environment clean, reduce air pollution, planting trees and flowers to increase oxygen and love and respect towards all living organisms.

First celebrated in 1970, it now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries.
