Prices of vegetables, fruits and other essentials have been soared as Ramadan began. Markets are closed due to the coronavirus lockdown but sellers who are selling fruits and vegetables on vendors are taking high prices from the customers.

On the first day of Ramadan, many consumers from fixed and low-income groups said that the skyrocketing fruits and vegetables prices deprived them of enjoying the joy and spirituality of the holy month of  Ramadan.

Sellers are using this month as an opportunity to multiply prices much more than before Ramadan.

Prices of fruits and green spices skyrocketed in different parts of Karachi, the prevailing situation of Coronavirus pandemic and even in the blessed month of Ramadan, there was no relief given to the consumers, but items have become more expensive.

In different parts of the city, watermelons, which cost Rs 50 per kg, were sold at Rs 100 to Rs 120, Rs 40 per dozen, second and third grade bananas at Rs 80 to 120,muskmelon 100 to 120 and watermelons at Rs 50 to 60 per kg.

Lemons are also available at Rs 450 to Rs 450 per kg and green chillies at Rs 80 per kg. Prior these vegetables are being sold in the markets at Rs 150 to Rs 180 per kg, while a bag of coriander and mint has gone up to Rs 20.

On the other hand, sellers say that they cannot sell fruits and vegetables at low prices as they themselves bought expensive from the market.
