Riek Machar, South Sudan dissident leader turned-vice-president tests positive for Coronavirus

The earlier insurgent leader Riek Machar was tested positive of COVID-19, he was the first vice-president of South Sudan’s addressed on Monday.

According to the statement that was posted on the office’s Facebook page and it was also attributed to press secretary named as James Gatdek Dak and, it was also confirmed that Machar’s wife, Defence Minister Angelina Teny and “a number of his office staff and bodyguards” was also found infected by COVID-19.

Machar “has issued a public statement declaring that he is found positive, and from today will self-quarantine in his residence for the next 14 days,” the statement said.

Moreover, South Sudan who is emerging from one of the devastating six-year civil war and it has been also recorded that around 339 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed as well as 6 deaths according to the recent figures from the ministry of health that was released on Monday. However, the number has been low in which only 3,908 tests were conducted in the hospitals as well as the aid agencies were also sounding the alarm over the sharp that has risen the cases in most recent days.

About last week the officials have also announced about the virus that had reached the camp of around 30,000 people that were displaced and have also sought the United Nations protection in the capital of Juba since the year of 2013. On the other hand, two cases were confirmed as well.

Moreover, in northern Bentiu case was also confirmed in a similar camp of around 120,000 people.
