A British court has rejected an appeal against the five-year sentence of Australian cricketer Alex Hepburn in a case of sexual abuse of a university student and upheld his sentence of five years.

According to the reports, a British court had sentenced Australian cricketer Alex Hepburn to five years in prison in April last year after he was found guilty of sexually abusing a student.

The Australian all-rounder was hanging out with friends and sexually assaulted a 24-year-old university student sleeping in a hotel.

According to the report, Alex Hepburn attended the court proceedings through a video link. The court rejected his appeal after which the cricketer will have to spend five years in jail.

Alex Hepburn was sentenced to five years in prison on April 30 last year for rape.

The 24-year-old cricketer had filed an appeal against the sentence in the second-highest court of England and Wales at 10.30 am on Thursday, which has been dismissed.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett and two other senior judges ruled on the appeal against Hepburn, but it is not yet clear on what basis the cricketers will challenge the sentence again.
