Activities in construction sector to help alleviate poverty, says President

President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that activities in the construction sector will help alleviate poverty.

Addressing a webinar on the impact of China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on the region in Islamabad, President Dr Arif Alvi said that 20 projects have been completed under CPEC while work on more projects is underway.

The President said that Multan to Sukkur Motorway is under CPEC is underway. The cornerstone of ML-1 railway project from Peshawar to Karachi will also be laid soon.

Arif Alvi said that Gwadar International Airport will connect the world directly to CPEC. A brackish desalination plant is also being completed in Gwadar.

He further said that work on Diamer Basha Dam is also underway with the cooperation of China. Construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam will create 16,000 jobs.

The President said that completion of CPEC would also increase trade within the country.

Dr Arif Alvi said that the tourism sector has been severely affected due to the Coronavirus pandemic. China has provided all possible assistance in dealing with the COVID-19. A team of doctors from China came to Pakistan who provided guidance in dealing with Coronavirus.

He said that CPEC is not just a road construction project but also includes cooperation in all sectors of the economy. Activities in the construction sector will help alleviate poverty.
