Rejecting the perception of a shortage of wheat in the country, Sindh government ministers have said that there is the ample stock of wheat in the province.

Addressing a press conference with provincial government spokesman Murtaza Wahab in Karachi, Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that there was no shortage of wheat at present, it was a self-inflicted shortage, all provinces and Pasco had abundant wheat.

The food department of Sindh government releases wheat to the mills in September every year so that the prices remain balanced and flour is cheaper but we are being asked to release wheat at this time so that those who have stockpiled want to benefit.

He said that the distribution of wheat has been started in other provinces but it will be done as per the procedure here.

He said that flour is still available here at a lower price than other provinces of the country and there is no shortage.

Nasir Hussain Shah said that the Chief Minister has instructed the administration to crack down on hoarders and take action against the hoarders and impose fines on them.

“There is a message for those who have stockpiled or I am warning that crackdown is being launched on them. It is not possible for our people to get expensive flour due to stockpiling,” the provincial minister said.

He told the owners of flour mills to keep their fixed profit but not to take too much profit and not to stockpile.

He said that the crop comes first in Sindh and when the request came from Punjab, the Chief Minister had given permission to provide wheat wherever it is needed in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
