Police Constable Asghar Ali, who was critically injured in a firing incident by motorcyclists in Korangi area of Karachi last morning, died while undergoing treatment.

A spokesman of the police said that the department salutes the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Head Constable Asghar was severely injured in the firing of unidentified assailants near the stadium while on duty in Awami Colony area of Korangi district yesterday. Terrorists also snatched the pistol of injured Asghar Ali after the attack.

According to a police spokesman, the injured policeman was rushed to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center (JMPC) in critical condition where Chief Constable Asghar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The martyred policeman was posted at Zaman Town police station.

Dr Sami Jamali, Executive Director, JPMC, said that Asghar had bullets in his stomach and chest and he was immediately shifted to the operating theatre.

Paying homage to Shaheed Head Constable Asghar, Additional IG Karachi said that Karachi Police has always been on the lookout for peace in the city.

Earlier this week, An operation was carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi in which four accused involved in the targeted killing of several persons were arrested.

CTD officials said the arrested suspects belonged to the MQM London group, identified as Farhan Ali Haider, Mohammad Mazhar, Mohammad Atif and Farrukh Shehzad.

Officials further said that the accused Farhan Ali belongs to MQM London while the accused has been involved in killing 5 people. The accused Muhammad Mazhar was the unit in-charge of 99 unit and used to deliver arms at the unit level. Atif and Farrukh used to collect extortion.

CTD officials said that weapons and stolen goods were recovered from the possession of the accused and further investigation is underway.
