The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the revision in electricity prices, an increase of Rs 4.26 per unit for five months. Consumers will have to pay an additional Rs 30 billion.

NEPRA also approved a reduction of Rs 3.10 per unit for three months. The burden of increasing the price of electricity on the people of Karachi has been averted.

Electricity bomb was dropped on the people crushed by inflation. NEPRA has approved an adjustment in electricity prices in terms of monthly fuel adjustment, 98 paise for November 2019, 1 rupee 88 paise for December 2019, 93 paise for January 2020. 39 paise per unit for February and 6 paise per unit for March.

A five-month hike in electricity prices will apply to August bills, with consumers paying an additional Rs 30 billion in August.

NEPRA has approved a reduction of 68 paise per unit for the month of April, 17 paise per unit for May 1 and 24 paise per unit for June. The reduction in electricity prices will be applicable on September bills.

In September, consumers will get relief of Rs 35 billion, users of 300 units and agricultural consumers will be deprived of relief. The increase and decrease in prices will be applicable after the notification of the government.

NEPRA has also decided to scrutinize the documents of K Electric. After the scrutiny, the request for the increase in electricity prices of K Electric will be heard again.

According to NEPRA, K Electric had demanded more than Rs 188 billion for quarterly adjustment. A request was also made for adjustment in a fuel price adjustment.
