The federal government has announced to launch a special program for development works in Karachi with the Sindh government on board.

Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz while briefing the media after the meeting of the Federal Cabinet said that there was a discussion on getting rid of the permanent problems of Karachi.

He said that there are problems of tanker mafia, sewerage, solid waste management and transport in Karachi for which a special program has been formulated by the federation.

“Such a mechanism has been devised because the Sindh government is there and we respect it and without their co-operation, the program cannot be completed,” he said.

The Federal Minister said that a strategy has been formulated for the implementation of these projects which also includes responsibility and it will not be possible unless there is ownership.

He said that the Prime Minister was going to Karachi on Friday, the federation was providing resources for the package in collaboration with NDMA and the project would be launched with the Sindh government on board.

He said that the Prime Minister would formally announce the project in Karachi on the same day.

Informing the cabinet meeting, he said that the Prime Minister had directed Finance Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and Sania Nishtar to start the second phase of Ehsas for poverty alleviation through Ehsas program.

He said that the second phase of the program could not be started due to Code-19 as it was based on documents and could not be limited to a few people.

Shibli Faraz said that the major economies of western countries also faltered due to COVID-19 but it did not have such an impact on Pakistan’s economy.

Replying to a question, he said that the cabinet had reviewed the damage caused by rains in different parts of Sindh besides Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi.
