“Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Karachi”

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and Governor Punjab Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar held a joint press conference in which efforts to develop Karachi were addressed.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said that the federal government is putting all efforts to develop Karachi from scratch and bring back its lost glory.

Imran Ismail said that the recent rain spell was not normal as more than 400 millimeters of rainfall lashed the city bringing widespread destruction.

The governor pointed out that keeping in view the damage caused by the downpour, it has been classified as level 2.

“No city in the world could cope with rain system of such intensity,” he stated.

He added that the government will distribute ration to 0.1 million people in Karachi and will continue to facilitate them in every possible manner.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail highlighted that Prime Minister Imran Khan is monitoring Karachi’s situation on a daily basis by himself and he is expected to visit the metropolis soon.

“The PM will announce Karachi Transformation Plan during his visit which has been prepared by taking all stakeholders on board,”

Sindh governor said that an honest person will be deputed as an administrator of the city and for the purpose, discussions are being held.

Sarwar said that the Punjab government stands with the people of Karachi in this hour of need.

“We will not leave people in Sindh alone and would make efforts to provide relief to them.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a high-level meeting in the federal capital on the “Karachi Transformation Plan” for a permanent solution to the city’s problems.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, and Sindh Governor Imran Ismail participated in the meeting through video link. Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal, Secretaries of relevant Ministries and Senior Officers also participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on Karachi issues, water, sewerage, drainage, solid waste management.

The Prime Minister was also briefed on the problems faced by the people regarding transport. The Ministers then proposed the “Karachi Transformation Plan” for the permanent solution to these problems.

A special presentation was also given to Prime Minister Imran Khan by the Planning Ministry in this regard.
