Sindh Agriculture Minister Ismail Rahoo said that six employees of the department lost their lives during the spray campaign in different areas after a locusts attack on crops in the province.

In his statement, Ismail Rahoo said that the employees had fainted during the spray campaign and were rushed to the hospital.

He said that according to medical reports, four of the employees were also diagnosed with coronavirus in the hospital while two suffered heart attacks.

Ismail Rahoo said that in the summary presented to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, he had recommended giving ‘martyr’ status to those who lost their lives and providing employment to their children.

He said that he has also requested the provincial government to give a bonus to all the employees participating in the spray campaign.

It should be noted that the Sindh government had launched a campaign against locusts last year to protect crops from damage.

Locusts entered Balochistan in March last year and attacked Sindh by June.

The locusts migrated from the desert areas of Sindh to the Indian state of Rajasthan in July and returned to Sindh in October, damaging various crops.

Last month, the federal government decided to use the plane for a spray campaign against locusts.
