Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials in Pakistan have arrested two people after Interpol reports from Italy, suspected of being part of an international group that makes and sells child pornography.

FIA officials have arrested two people near Sialkot in Punjab. A senior official of the agency, Muhammad Iqbal, said that a raid was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, February 6, in a suburb of the city to arrest the suspects.

According to Iqbal, one accused was questioned after being taken into custody and the other accused was arrested on the basis of information obtained from him. The two suspects are still at large.

This is the first time that Interpol has provided information to Pakistani authorities in order to reach out to a group or suspect in child pornography. Preliminary evidence obtained from the computer of a suspect detained near Sialkot revealed that he was in contact with an international group making child pornography. The accused was also sharing such videos on ‘Dark Web’.

Dark Web refers to this hidden part of the Internet that is beyond the reach of ordinary users. Special software is required to access this section. Many illegal activities are done on the ‘Dark Net’ through the internet all over the world.

According to Pakistani law, both the accused have to be produced in court within 24 hours of their arrest. Authorities are likely to ask for more time in the first hearing to proceed with the investigation and get to the root of the matter. The accused will then be formally charged later.

Interpol is an international body of 194 member countries, which investigates crimes and suspects who are active in different countries and regions and whose crimes are affecting the people or authorities of more than one country. It is funded by the governments of the member countries.
