National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has warned K-Electric that residents must not suffer from long hours of load shedding in summers.

According to the details, NEPRA completed the hearing on the request of K Electric to increase the price of electricity by Rs. 1.75/-

During the hearing, the Chairman NEPRA Tauseef H. Farooqi warned K Electric to improve the system. He said that the residents of Karachi must not suffer from electricity crisis as they have been through last year. We will make a decision after reviewing all the facts and figures.

K-Electric officials said that the first unit of the Bin Qasim 3 plant will be ready by May 15 and the completion of the unit will generate 450 MW of electricity.

“Things will be better next summer than in the past,” officials of K-Electric said.

On the other hand, NEPRA released a report on the January 9 power breakdown.

The report said that the problem occured at Guddu power station at 11:41 pm due to human error. Work was being done on Guddu power station but SOPs were not implemented.

According to the report, blackout was due to the incompetence of the management.

The report recommended that the energy saving study should be done and safety measures should be taken to avoid future blackouts.
