Pakistan and other countries around the world are celebrating the international day for forests today (Sunday).

The theme for this year 2021 is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being.” Climate change and pollution have disrupted the lives around the world and the shortage of plants is paving the way for more global warming. Thousands of forests are cut and used for various domestic and commercial purposes, but we ignore the fact that cutting more trees means we are losing precious things from nature.

Beautiful and tall trees are blessed with several benefits, they are contributing to making the air clean, they are providing delicious fruits and vegetables, they are also offering shades in the scorching heat. But, excessive deforestation is welcoming more environmental problems. If things are not controlled, our future generation will crave natural scenes.

According to the official website of the United Nations, “This year’s theme fits into the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a call for the protection and revival of ecosystems around the world.”

What is the background of this day?

The UN’s General Assembly had introduced 21 March the International Day of Forests in 2012 to raise awareness regarding the significance of all types of forests. “Countries are encouraged to undertake local, national, and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns,” the UN says on its website.
