It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of The Duke of Edinburgh today. A man of great purpose and conviction, who was motivated by a sense of duty to others, Prince Philip contributed so much to the social fabric of our country – and the world.

Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband and the longest-serving consort of any British monarch, has breathed his last at the age of 99.
A statement by Buckingham Palace said:
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Further announcements will be made in due course.
The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
Media reports said that the Duke of Edinburgh was in ill health before his death, having been admitted to hospital days after not feeling well in February.
His last public appearance was in July 2020 when he transferred his ceremonial role as colonel-in-chief of The Rifles to his daughter-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
