Elon Musk, the tech maverick has been advocating the importance of space colonization for years. His company Space X clarified that sending humans to Mars will likely occur before 2030 after failing to meet the initial year date of 2024.

Elon Musk believes that the Earth is facing population collapse which is why he wants humanity to colonize the red planet. Musk’s attempts to stave off population decline was lauded by fans on Twitter as the father of six made the statement while responding to a post by a Tesla fan club.

Musk noted that humanity needs more people in order to colonize Mars as the population is a much bigger issue than most people think it is. According to a report, the fertility rate per woman from this year stands at around 2.4 children per woman. The decline was the factor behind Musk’s comment about population collapse. The global fertility rate in 1950 was 4.7 children per woman and now it has fallen by almost half. Simultaneously, the UN projected that by 2050, the number of people aged 65 or older will reach 1.5 billion which means that the world population is growing older.
