Vietnam shuts down capital Hanoi for 15 days as COVID-19 cases climb

Vietnam has declared a 15-day lockdown in the capital Hanoi starting Saturday as a coronavirus rises from the southern Mekong Delta district.

The lockdown directive was issued late Friday night, bans the crowds consisting more than two people in public.

Only government offices, hospitals, and essential businesses are permitted to operate during the lockdown.

Earlier in the week, the city had banned all outdoor activities and instructed non-essential businesses to close subsequent an upsurge in Covid-19 positive cases.

Whereas on Friday, Hanoi informed 70 authorized diseases, the city’s maximum, part of a record 7,295 cases in the country in the last 24 hours.

On the contrary, nearly 5,000 of them are from Vietnam’s largest city, southern Ho Chi Minh City, which has also stretched its lockdown until Aug. 1.

In the most recent wave of COVID-19 since April, Vietnam has logged over 83,000 illnesses and 335 deaths.

A meeting of the National Assembly that started in Hanoi on Tuesday with 499 representatives is going ahead, although it was reduced to 12 from the original 17 days.

Furthermore, the representatives have been inoculated, are frequently tested for the coronavirus and are traveling in a bubble, and are quarantined at hotels, according to the National Assembly.
