Airbnb’s CEO, Brian Chesky, announced on Tuesday that the business will begin lodging 20,000 Afghan refugees for free around the world.

Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, thousands of Afghan refugees have attempted to depart the nation via Kabul airport in order to escape the militant group’s governmental rule.

Brian Chesky stated, “While we will be paying for these stays, we could not do this without the generosity of our Hosts.”

Chesky went on to state that Airbnb.org is collaborating with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other partner groups to help as many refugees as possible.

He is also inviting others for such a noble cause, stating, “If you’re willing to host a refugee family, reach out and I’ll connect you with the right people here to make it happen!”

“The displacement and resettlement of Afghan refugees in the US and elsewhere are one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our time. We feel a responsibility to step up.”

“I hope this inspires other business leaders to do the same. There’s no time to waste.”

Airbnb.org is well-known for assisting individuals affected by natural catastrophes or global crises. One example is that the corporation set aside $250 million to assist “offset losses by hosts worldwide whose guests canceled bookings in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.”
