Farkh, a rare breed of Super White Gyrfalcon, was sold for $93,347 on the eighth day of the International Falcon Breeders Auction, making it the most expensive falcon ever sold at the auction, according to Arab News.

This sale shattered the previous record for a rare Saudi-bred falcon, Raghwan, which sold for $72,000 earlier this month. However, the buyer’s identity has not yet been revealed.

The breeders of the auctioned bird claim that they breed roughly 300 falcons per year to the same standard as this record-breaking bird.

According to the publication, the bidding for the falcon, which measures 18.5 inches long and wide, began at $66,676 during an auction hosted by the Saudi Falcons Club.

Falconry is a centuries-old sport that has grown into a multi-million dollar industry in the Gulf region. It has seen some of the fastest, most beautiful, and most intellectual falcons sold at record-breaking prices based on their particular traits and ancestry.

Abdullah Shamrookh, a falconer with over two decades of expertise, believes that buying falcons for breeding is a profitable and long-term business, given that the market has become extremely competitive due to the birds’ scarcity.
