Facebook released a study on what material was most popular in the United States. It was the first time such a report had been made public. However, according to the media, Facebook was working on a comparable report for the first quarter of 2021 that it chose not to disclose because it could have negatively reflected on the firm.

The copy of the report, which is obtained by the media, says that the most-viewed article in the first quarter contains a header that could promote COVID-19 vaccine caution, which has been an issue on the social media platform.

The headline reads, “A ‘healthy’ doctor died two weeks after getting a COVID-19 vaccine; CDC is investigating why.” The South Florida Sun-Sentinel published the article and it was republished by The Chicago Tribune, according to the media sources.

Facebook was planning on releasing this report, but executives, Alex Schultz, Facebook’s CMO and VP of analytics, “debated whether it would cause a public relations problem, according to the internal emails” and finally they decided not to publish it, media reported.

“We considered making the report public earlier but since we knew the attention it would garner, exactly as we saw this week, there were fixes to the system we wanted to make,” Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said in a statement. Stone also clarified Schultz’s opinion on if Facebook should release the report, saying that Schultz “advocated for putting out the report.”
