Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday ‘strongly condemned’ the attack on Ganesh Mandir in Bhung area of Rahim Yar Khan.

The premier, in a tweet, said that he has directed IG Punjab to ensure the arrest of all culprits and take action against any police negligence.

“The government will also restore the Mandir,” he added.

Dozens of people vandalised a Hindu temple in the town of Bhung and blocked the Sukkur-Multan Motorway after an eight-year-old Hindu boy, who allegedly urinated in a local seminary, was granted bail by a local court on Wednesday.

The boy, Bhavish Kumar Meghwar, had accidentally entered a seminary in Bhung on July 24. Local cleric Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim berated the eight-year-old boy and reportedly, Meghwar urinated out of fear of the cleric’s anger.

The cleric filed an FIR against the minor the next day after which he was arrested. The court, however, granted bail to the minor.

Following the court’s decision, a mob of young men gathered and vandalised the Shree Ganesh Hindu temple in the town.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gil earlier announced on Twitter that the PM Office had taken notice of the tragic and terrible occurrence.

He said the prime minister had instructed the district administration to investigate the incident and take serious measures against the culprits.

“Pakistan’s Constitution provides freedom and protection to minorities to perform their worship freely,” he said.
