Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard scored the goals in either half as Brentford started its Premier League season to a dream start with a 2-0 win against Arsenal.

Bryan Mbeumo went to kick the early 12th minute lead, but the ball missed the right post after a shot from Ivan Toney.

When Arsenal failed to clear their lines, Ethan Pinnock nodded on for Canos, who rifled past Bernd Leno at his near post to give Brentford a 1-0 lead.

Mbeumo had a chance to double the hosts’ lead shortly before half-time, but his shot went wide, while Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe and Granit Xhaka both came close after the interval.

17 minutes from time, Norgaard secured the points by pushing through a crowded defense to head in Mads Bech’s long throw, before David Raya kept his clean sheet with a brilliant stop from Nicolas Pepe.
