KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Monday provided an attorney to Saad Aziz alias Tin Tin to plead his appeal against 20 years sentence he was awarded by an Anti-Terrorism Court for making an attempt on the life of American educationist Debra Lobo.

Aziz was also awarded death sentence by a military court in the Safoora carnage case.

When his appeal was taken up for hearing by a two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha, Saad, who was present in the court, submitted that he did not have financial resources to engage a lawyer and requested for services of a lawyer on state’s expenses to plead his case.

The court was informed that Moula Bukhsh Bhutto would plead Saad’s appeal.

The court further deferred the hearing till September 23, 2021, so that the new counsel could go through case file.

Saad was found guilty of shooting at and wounding Lobo, the vice-principal of Karachi’s Jinnah Medical and Dental College, on Shaheed-e-Millat Road in April 2015. The ATC-XI judge, who conducted trial in the judicial complex inside the central prison had awarded 10-year imprisonment to the appellant for attempted murder under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Furthermore, he was also handed down another 10-year imprisonment for committing an “act of terror” punishable under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

According to the prosecution, the veteran educationist was on her way to her residence in the Defence Housing Authority in a car when the attack took place at around 3pm. Although she survived the attack, Lobo suffered two bullet wounds on her hand and face.
