KARACHI: Two more doctors succumbed to Covid-19 on Friday, taking the nationwide death toll of doctors and paramedics to 208 and 31, respectively.

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) General Secretary Dr Qaiser Sajjad, confirmed to Bol News that Dr Syed Nisar Ali Shah, 62, had breathed his last at the Civil Hospital Karachi. He said it was unfortunate that the frontline soldiers have been losing their lives to the pandemic.

Dr Sajjad said that Dr Shah had retired from the Civil Hospital, but was serving as a medico-legal officer (MLO) in the same hospital. He said that his colleague had tested positive a few days back and eventually passed away due to the chronic failure of his kidney.

While remembering his colleague, he said that Shah had served as a general secretary of the Communist Party of Pakistan and always raised his voice for the masses.

In a separate statement, the PMA also shared that Dr Farzana Memon of Naushahro Feroze also lost her life to the coronavirus.

According to the PMA, 208 doctors have lost their lives to Covid-19 while performing their duties in different hospitals. The breakdown showed that 75 deaths were reported in Punjab, 74 in Sindh, 55 in KP, one in Gilgit-Baltistan and three in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
