KARACHI: Unisame (Union of Small and Medium Enterprises) has expressed heartfelt sympathies with the families of the victims of the Mehran Town fire in Korangi and urged all the SMEs to take preventive measures and avoid such dangerous and injurious situations, causing damage to life and property, a statement said on Sunday.

Unisame president Zulfikar Thaver said that it was unfortunate that the government officials were compromising on the safety, protection, and security and showing leniency towards standards of ventilation, exit gates, fire extinguishers, and fire-fighting equipment.

The Unisame urged all the SME units to be careful and take protective measures to ensure the safety of precious lives and property.

The Unisame also urged strict adherence to safety rules and regulations and obedience to the factories act.

It appealed to the governments to give insurance cover to the lives of the workers together with property, as lives are more valuable and precious and their loss is irreparable.
