Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed announced on Thursday that Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan at Chaman may be closed for some days due to ‘threats’.

Addressing the media in Islamabad, the minister assured everyone that Pakistan’s forces are present at the border.

“We are proud of our security institutions for the service they are rendering for the security of the country,” said the interior minister.  He reiterated that Islamabad desires “peace and stability” in Afghanistan.

“Peace in Afghanistan is important for peace in Pakistan,” said Ahmed.

Responding to a question, the minister said it is not time for a long march and called on the opposition parties to sit with the government to take forward the country and deal with the challenges.

“Opposition may hold the long march within the ambit of law but nobody will be allowed to play with the law and order situation,” warned the interior minister.
