Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has assured army’s full support and commitment to the Kashmir cause and the people of Kashmir.

Talking to AJK Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, who called on him on Saturday, General Qamar Bajwa congratulated the AJK PM on assumption of his new office and expressed his best wishes for prosperity of the region of Kashmir.

The prime minister AJK appreciated the army’s contribution towards security and development in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir including continued Indian unilateralism in IIOJK and situation along Line of Control was discussed.

On the occasion, the army chief paid tribute to Syed Ali Geelani for his historical and selfless struggle for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

The funeral prayers of veteran Kashmiri Hurriyat leader and the icon of Kashmir freedom movement Syed Ali Geelani were offered in absentia at the capital’s Faisal Mosque on Friday.

President Dr Arif Alvi, federal ministers, parliamentarians and a large number of people from different walks of life offered the prayers. National Security Adviser Dr Moeed Yusuf, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and other government officials attended.

Syed Ali Geelani passed away Wednesday night at his home in Srinagar, capital of Indian Occupied Kashmir at the age of 92.

He was laid to rest early Thursday morning in Srinagar amidst heavy deployment of Indian occupation force.
