Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Faiz Hameed is in Kabul to hold talks with the Afghan Taliban, reported multiple media outlets on Saturday.

According to sources, the DG ISI arrived in Kabul under the direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan. They added that the PM sent the intelligence chief of the country to Kabul as he believes that Pakistan being a Muslim country should help and support each other in hard times.

On the other hand Geo.tv, citing sources reported that Lt Gen Faiz will discuss issues related to the “safe evacuation of foreign nationals, border management and security in the region” with the Taliban officials.

The publication also reported that the DG ISI is coordinating with Pakistan’s Ambassador Mansoor Ahmed Khan and his team on the issues facing the repatriation and transit through Pakistan and the situation on the border.

Sources told Geo.tv that Lt Gen Faiz will also discuss with the Taliban to develop a mechanism where foreign nationals can transit through Pakistan to their home country.

Pakistan is being used by foreign countries as a transit point ever since the Afghan Taliban’s takeover of Kabul.

Last month, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had announced that any person of any nationality, who comes to Pakistan from Afghanistan, will be given a transit visa of 21 days.

He had also shared at that time that so far 1,627 people have come through the air route, while over 2,100 people arrived through the land route at Torkham.
