According to the leaders of international trade associations from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean appearing on a virtual panel arranged by the American Society of Travel Advisors, the return of international travel is critical to the industry’s recovery (ASTA).

The panelists all agreed that the uncertainty around laws and regulations, as well as continuously changing government policies that are not always based on data and science, continue to cripple the travel adviser business, and they all urged for further government aid.

Government acts and inaction, according to ASTA CEO Zane Kerby, have caused “tremendous harm” to the business and the traveling public. As a result, the organization, along with others, continues to advocate for government aid in the form of grants and legislation.

Kerby said the international travel landscape is “unwieldy and untenable.”

The patchwork of regulations, he claims, reduces demand and confuses the public. Vaccinated Americans, according to Kerby, are treated the same as unvaccinated Americans. “We think that needs to change because the threat level among vaccinated travelers is far lower.”
