Website in New Zealand sells ‘charpai’ for $800 as Indian Vintage
While there isn’t much information on the website about the product other than it being “original” and “one of a kind,” according to the company’s Facebook page, it has suppliers from all across Asia, India, and the Middle East.
A New Zealand store was found selling ‘charpai’ — a traditional woven bed — for $800, only days after luxury fashion label Balenciaga attracted the attention of netizens for selling bags resembling “desi thailas” for Rs 1.5 lakh.
ANNABELLE’S, a home design business, has a cot dubbed “antique Indian daybed” on their official website. The bed, like many others found in India and Pakistan, is a jute handwoven cot known as a “charpai” or “chorpay.” The item was once priced at $1200.
