Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower has been appointed as the team consultant for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He will join the coaching staff which also includes former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener and former Australian pacer Shaun Tait, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced.

Flower has represented Zimbabwe in 63 Tests and 213 ODIs from 1996 to 2004. He coached England from 2009 to 2014, and under his coaching, England won the T20 World Cup 2010.

He has also been part of the coaching staff for several T20 leagues in different countries, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

While confirming Andy’s appointment to the staff, the ACB chairman Azizullah Fazli said, “We are delighted that Andy has joined ACB. Andy has worked with a number of our players in various franchise completions and his vast experience will be very beneficial and useful to help the team in the World Cup.”

The ACB also said that Flower has already entered the biosecure bubble along with the rest of the squad and staff ahead of the tournament.

Afghanistan is placed in Group 2 of the Super12 along with Pakistan, New Zealand, and two qualifying teams.

They will start their T20 World Cup journey by going against one of the qualifying teams.
