An Ohio father whose children missed a day of school due to a statewide bus driver shortage, is using a limousine to transport neighborhood youngsters to and from school.

Sean Rogers Jr. of Columbus said his children were unable to attend school on Friday because their bus failed to arrive to transport them to Graham Elementary and Middle Schools.

As a result, he posted on Facebook asking if any other local parents wanted their children to be driven to school in a limousine borrowed from his father’s limo service.

Rogers claimed he quickly received hundreds of responses, prompting him to give 25 children rides on Monday, with the number rising to 42 on Tuesday.

Rogers told the media, “Everybody always wants to say let’s help the community let’s stop this violence that type of stuff, but I feel like a big step of stopping the violence is getting kids to school instead of letting them skip school and go out and get into trouble.”

Bus driver shortages have been reported throughout Ohio, and Columbus City Schools Superintendent Talisa Dixon stated at a Tuesday board meeting that 15% to 20% of the district’s drivers called out almost every day last week.

The district is looking into alternative transit options, according to Dixon.
