ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reached Tehran on a two-day official visit to attend the ministerial meeting of Afghanistan’s close neighbours tomorrow.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad-Ali Hosseini and Pakistan’s envoy in Iran Rahim Hayat Qureshi received the foreign minister at the airport on Tuesday.

FM Qureshi will represent Pakistan’s viewpoint at the ministerial meeting on Afghanistan. He will also hold talks with the top Iranian leadership in Tehran.

In a statement, the foreign minister said that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan was of equal importance for all neighbouring countries.

At Pakistan’s initiative, the first virtual meeting of the foreign ministers of neighbouring countries of Afghanistan was held on September 8, 2021. The meeting concluded with a joint statement, reflecting neighbouring countries’ approach to Afghanistan.

“Pakistan will continue to support the international community’s efforts to promote the shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, connected and prosperous Afghanistan,” said the ministry.
