A woman in Western Canada, named Ruth Hamliton, had a spine-chilling yet, once-in-a-lifetime encounter with a meteorite this week.

Hamilton was asleep when a 3-pound rock pierced through her roof and landed next to her in bed. Fortunately, it didn’t do any harm to the woman and she was left intact. The rock was lent to scientists for study, later they confirmed that the rock is approximately a 4.5 billion year-old meteorite, as the minerals found in it are the kinds nickel and iron normally found in space. Furthermore, the proportions of the rock are the rarest of its kind.

The officials studying the space rock have referred to it as “a small piece of a larger puzzle”. While estimating the age of the meteorite, the scientists called it as the oldest thing on earth.  Discussing the unusual rock, they sounded more interested in the fireball that formed before the meteorite entered the earth, as those photos will eventually help them find out the origin of it.
