Telecom services operating as per ‘normal routine’: PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority announced on Wednesday that the telecom services in the country were operating on a “normal routine” after a “fault” in a submarine cable was fixed.

“Work was completed last night. All telecom services are operational as per normal routine,” tweeted PTA while giving an update on the submarine cable fault.

A day earlier, the regulator had shared that internet services in Pakistan were restored after the malfunction in the international underwater cable system near Fujairah, UAE was repaired.

“A submarine cable fault was reported yesterday near Fujairah, UAE due to which some users may have faced degradation in services. The faulty cable segment has been repaired & work is underway to make the services fully functional,” the PTA has said in a tweet.

“PTA is monitoring the situation and will continue to update on it,” the statement had added.

In February of this year, an underwater cable system providing internet service malfunctioned, resulting in difficulties for Pakistani consumers in accessing internet services.

Earlier, in October 2019 too, online services were affected due to a fault in two international underwater cables providing internet to Pakistan.

In 2017, Internet services across the country were affected for two consecutive days due to a breakdown in the IMEWE ( India-Middle East-Western Europe) submarine cable.
