BADIN: An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 jolted parts of Badin, Thatta and Karachi on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Pakistan Met Department (PMD), the epicentre of the earthquake was near the southwest of Badin in the northeast of Sindh at a depth of 17 kilometres.

The tremors were also felt in New Chali, Pakistan Chowk and other areas of Karachi along the coastline.

Fear and panic spread among the citizens when the tremors hit the areas, and people came out of their houses and shops and moved towards safer places, said Bol News. However, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, it added.

Earthquakes in Pakistan occur often and are sometimes very destructive as the country remained among the most earthquake-prone regions of the world.

Earlier in October, a 5.9-magnitude quake had struck parts of Balochistan, killing at least 15 people and injuring over 200 others.

According to a Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Balochistan, the remote mountainous Harnai district was the most affected area of the province where most of the casualties and damages were reported.
