Chinese ambassador, defence attache call on COAS Bajwa at GHQ

RAWALPINDI: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong and incoming Chinese Defence Attache to Pakistan Major General Yang Yang called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation, including the peace process in Afghanistan, and measures to further enhance bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and China were discussed, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.

The army chief reiterated the need for convergence of efforts towards a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan in pursuit of regional stability.

COAS Bajwa also congratulated the defence attache for assuming the new position and appreciated the efforts of his predecessor.

The visiting dignitaries thanked the COAS for special measures taken for the provision of a safe and secure environment to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Pakistan and efforts towards regional stability.

On May 3 too, Ambassador Rong had called on General Bajwa at the GHQ during which, matters of mutual interest, CPEC progress, regional security and the Covid-19 situation came under discussion. The army chief had thanked him for China’s contributions in the fight against the virus in Pakistan.
