Acoustic Kitty was a CIA project launched in the 1960s by the Directorate of Science and Technology of the Central Intelligence Agency, with the goal of using cats to spy on the Kremlin and Soviet embassies.

A veterinary surgeon inserted a microphone in the cat’s ear canal, a small radio transmitter at the base of its skull, and a thin wire into its fur during an hour-long procedure.

This equipment would allow the cat to record and transfer sound from its surroundings in an unobtrusive manner.

But, the first spy cat, who was on its first mission, failed miserably, the cat just ran away from the place where it had to spy and was right then hit by a taxi and died.

This experiment was a huge failure. This idea came up when the cold war between Russia and America was on a high level.
