ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Monday slammed the Indian government for arresting Kashmiri students under terror just because they celebrated Pakistan’s win against archrival India.

Taking to Twitter, the minister said that despite the Modi government’s heinous acts against Kashmiris in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the hope for freedom was rising.

Sharing a report by Al-Jazeera, Chaudhry said that “a case has been registered against the students of Government Medical College and Sher-i-Kashmir Medical College in the occupied Kashmir for celebrating Pakistan’s victory.”

Last week, Indian police had filed criminal cases under an anti-terror law against the students of two medical colleges for celebrating Pakistan’s victory against India in the T20 World Cup.

In the October 25 match, Pakistan had thrashed India with a 10-wicket victory in the United Arab Emirates. It was Pakistan’s first-ever victory by 10 wickets against any opposition in a T20, while India also faced the ignominy of losing by such a margin for the first time.

According to the Al-Jazeera report, cases were later filed against an ‘unspecified’ number of Kashmiri students under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) “for causing insult to the national sentiment during the cricket match.”

“Pakistan’s victory is Kashmir’s victory, and why should not they celebrate it?” asked Chaudhry while criticising New Delhi.

Following India’s defeat, Kashmiri students in India’s Punjab state also came under attack by violent mobs. Muhammed Shami, the only Muslim player in the squad, was also abused and trolled online.
