LAHORE: The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) Punjab Chapter has withdrawn the strike call given against the condition of lifting 25 per cent of allocated wheat quota from other districts, a statement said.

The mill-owners from Rawalpindi/Islamabad have announced to go on a strike from Monday to protest against the policy of lifting allotted wheat quota from the Southern Punjab. The PFMA Punjab had announced to go on strike against this policy from Tuesday.

“[The] Punjab Food Department and [the] mill-owners have reached an agreement to waive off the condition of lifting 25 per cent of their allotted wheat quota from other districts. Following this breakthrough, [the] mill-owners withdrew their strike call,” PFMA Punjab Chapter chairman Asim Raza Ahmad said.

He expressed the hope that the food department officials would get final approval of waiving off the condition from the Cabinet at the earliest.

The PFMA meeting scheduled for Tuesday would be held as per the announcement for devising future strategy, he said, adding that the government should also enhance grinding charges in the wake of increase in the utilities and price hike.

The food department should not make policies against the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he added.
