ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) head and Jamiat Ulema e Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman on Friday said the government which had itself come through rigging had no right to make reformations.

Addressing media in Islamabad after a meeting with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Maulana Fazl ur Rehman said the opposition would consider legislation through fake majority, a dictatorial measure.

He said this in response to the government’s calling off of the joint session of the parliament within 24 hours of its convening. The joint session was summoned to float the bill regarding the electoral reforms pertaining to usage of electronic voting machine (EVM) and I-voting for overseas Pakistanis in the next general elections. Apparently, the meeting was called off because of reservations of the ruling party’s allies about the reforms.

Demanding free and fair elections, the JUI-F chief said the opposition was playing a united role in the parliament. “The government has been defeated in one legislation process as it had to postpone the meeting,” he said.

On this occasion, Bilawal Zardari said it was a success of the united opposition against the government. He said the government was facing defeat everyday.

To a query about the PPP’s rejoining the PDM alliance, he said he held no talk with Maulana Fazl in this regard.
