ABOTTABAD: Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa called it a matter of pride for Pakistan Army and country after officially installing Lt Gen Nigar Johar as the “first-ever three-star female general officer” as Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps (AMC).

“Installation of the first-ever three-star female general officer of Pakistan Army as Colonel Commandant of AMC is indeed a matter of immense pride for Pakistan Army and the country,” said COAS after pining the badges on Lt Gen Johar.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Gen Bajwa also lauded the AMC for its “high standards of health care during peace and war”.

“AMC has always answered the call of duty during natural calamities, both inland and abroad. Our doctors and paramedic staff have been frontline warriors against Covid-19 and displaying exemplary commitment and resolve for the safety and well-being of the people of Pakistan,” said the army chief.

The general emphasised that keeping up with the “rapid advancements in medical science is imperative” for doctors and paramedics so that they are at par with “modern militaries and best global practices in health care”.

Earlier on arrival at the Army Medical Corps (AMC) Center in, Abbottabad, General Bajwa laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha.

Lt Gen Nigar Johar was promoted to the three-star rank in June of last year. Her elevation meant that she is the first female to be given a three-star rank.
