More than half of students between 12-18 years vaccinated with one dose: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Thursday said more than half of the students between the ages of 12 and 18 years had been inoculated against Covid-19.

Asad Umar, who also heads the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), said the total number of students vaccinated so far exceeded 5.5 million.

“Alhamdulillah more than half the students between the ages of 12 and 18 have been vaccinated with at least one dose,” he said in a tweet.

He said Gilgit-Baltistan led the way with 68 per cent and Punjab was second with 62 per cent vaccination.

Meanwhile, the NCOC Health Expert Committee has approved Chinese vaccines Sinopharm and Sinovac for administration to children above 12 years of age from November 15 onwards.

“Now, these vaccines will also be available in addition to already approved Pfizer for children above 12 yrs,” NCOC confirmed.

The NCOC on Thursday reported nine coronavirus deaths across the country in a single day. It also reported 637 cases out of 48,882 tests and said that the country’s positivity ratio remained at 1.30 per cent.
