Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan, COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa tells UK

RAWALPINDI: While emphasising the need for global convergence on Afghanistan, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa remarked that “peace” in the neighbouring country means “peace in Pakistan”.

“Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan,” the army chief told Director to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran for Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and UK’s Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP) Nigel Casey.

As per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) the British diplomat had called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the GHQ.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including the recent developments in Afghanistan were discussed.

“Pakistan values UK’s role in global and regional affairs and we look forward to enhance our bilateral relationship,” said the army chief. He also reiterated the need for global convergence on Afghanistan for avoiding humanitarian crises and coordinated efforts for the economic uplift of the Afghan people.

On the other hand, Casey lauded Pakistan for the role it played in the “Afghan situation, special efforts for border management, role in regional stability and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels”.
