Argentinian envoy, Punjab agriculture minister discuss cooperation

LAHORE: Ambassador of Argentine Leopoldo Francisco Sahores called on Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi and discussed matters of mutual interests and cooperation in the field of agriculture, a statement said.
Sahores said that Argentine’s companies were keen to invest in the field of agriculture and food products in Pakistan.
Gardezi said that there were vast investment opportunities in the agriculture sector, adding that the companies could set up agro commodity storage facilities.

“[The] Joint Business Council of [the] two countries is increasing business-to-business interaction,” he said.
The minister said agriculture reforms were yielding positive results, adding that an increase in the agricultural production would strengthen the national economy.
Meanwhile, the ambassador also called on Minister for Livestock Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak.
The minister said that disease-free zone has been established in Southern Punjab. He said 100 million doses of FMD were required annually for vaccination of 50 million cattle heads in Punjab.

Punjab could benefit from the expertise of Argentine in disease-free zones and FMD production, he said, adding that Argentine could set up vaccine production unit in Pakistan.
“It will not only fulfill local requirements but also provide facility of vaccine export to [the] neighbouring countries,” he said.
He suggested the ambassador to visit Southern Punjab for exploring livestock potential and areas of joint cooperation in the fields of disease-free zones and veterinary education.
