HONG KONG, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — “Welcome to our space lesson!” Applause and cheers resounded in several classrooms across China as students from different regions received this special lecture delivered from outer space on Thursday.

The lecture was given by Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, crew members of the Shenzhou-13 spacecraft who entered China’s space station in October.

It was directly broadcast to the main classroom in Beijing’s China Science and Technology Museum and classrooms in four other regions in the country, including Hong Kong, Macao, Wenchuan of Sichuan province and Nanning of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Audiences outside the classrooms watched the class through a webcast.

The lecture in Hong Kong was broadcast live on the campus of Pui Kiu College. During the hour-long lecture, the three astronauts showed the audiences around in the space station and performed fascinating experiments to illustrate principles behind different phenomena happening in space.

Appearing on the screen is Wang, the first woman that entered China’s space station core module Tianhe. The last time she was in space was eight years ago, when she earned the title of China’s first space teacher after giving a telecast lecture to students from an orbit more than 300 km above the Earth’s surface.

Known as a “space heroine”, her ponytail, smiling face and soft-spoken voice attracted millions of hits on social media.

Water solidified into a membrane as Wang dipped a hollow round tool into a bag filled with water. The students watched in awe as she placed a pink paper flower on the crystal-like water surface.

“I hope that your dreams will blossom in this vast universe, just like this flower,” Wang sent out her sincere wishes to the young students witnessing this scene for the first time.

Wang then proceeded to swallow two balls of solidified recycled water as Men Hanrui, a student from Pui Kiu College, raised a question about water in space.

“I feel honored to be able to connect with the astronauts,” Men shared his excitement with Xinhua, “their spirits are respectable and I learn a lot from them.”

The Shenzhou-13 crewed spaceship was launched successfully on Oct. 16, 2021, sending three astronauts to its space station core module Tianhe for a six-month mission, embarking on China’s longest-ever crewed mission for space station construction.
