ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Friday claimed that the Twitter account of Pakistan’s embassy in Serbia, which openly criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan, was hacked and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was conducting an inquiry into it.

Foreign Officer Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad tweeted, “The Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts of the Embassy of Pakistan in Serbia have been hacked. Messages being posted on these accounts are not from the Embassy of Pakistan in Serbia.”

Ostensibly, Pakistan Embassy Serbia officials have registered a protest against non-payment of salaries for three months in a unique way by publicly tweeting about it.

“With inflation breaking all previous records, how long do you expect Imran Khan that we government officials will remain silent and keep working for you without been paid for past 3 months and our children been forced out of school due to non-payment of fees. Is this Naya Pakistan?,” wrote the person using the Pakistan Embassy Serbia Twitter handle, without revealing his identity.

“I am sorry Imran Khan, am not left with another option,” he further wrote.

The Twitter account also shared a popular song that lambasts the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government for inflation.

It is pertinent here to mention that no official of the embassy has denied association with the tweet or condemned it till the filing of the report.
