Anti-Islam far-right political party intentions to burn a Qur’an among other things sparked another night of disturbance in southern Sweden on Saturday.

The town of Landskrona was rocked by up to 100 primarily young protesters who flung rocks, set tyres, dustbins, and a barrier fence on fire in response to the relocation of a Stram Kurs rally to the adjacent city of Malmö, approximately 27 miles away.

Landskrona police stated the scene had cooled down but remained tense late Saturday night. They added that no one had been hurt during the incident.

An earlier statement by police spokeswoman Kim Hild said that officers would not cancel authorization for the Landskrona rally organised by the Stram Kurs party since the free speech bar for doing so is quite high in Sweden.

Heavily-weighted demonstrations and public speeches by demonstrators “should not be disregarded,” Hild said in a statement to the Swedish news agency TT.

Collisions have occurred in Stockholm, Linkoping and Norrkoping since Thursday; these are places where Stram Kurs had planned or had rallies.

Twelve police officers were wounded and four police cars were set on fire after violent fights that occurred in the central city of Orebro on Friday evening ahead of Stram Kurs’ intention to burn a Qur’an there.

Rasmus Paludan, the leader of Stram Kurs, spoke to a small group of demonstrators on Saturday in Malmö’s central park. Police had to deploy pepper spray to remove a few anti-protesters who hurled stones at the marchers.

Swedish media stated that Paludan had been struck on the leg by a stone. According to authorities, no one was seriously injured.

Stram Kurs, or Hard Line, was founded in 2017 by Paludan, a Danish lawyer with dual Swedish citizenship. It has an anti-immigration and anti-Islamic stance that drives its policies.
