According to authorities, a man died on Wednesday after slamming his automobile into the gates of the Russian consulate in Romania and lighting himself on fire inside the vehicle.

A truck engulfed in flames smashed into the diplomatic mission’s gates, according to amateur video uploaded on social media.

“So far, we haven’t been able to link this conduct to anything other than the driver’s personal circumstances,” Romanian prosecutor Bogdan Staicu told reporters.

As per Romanian media, the driver was the founder of a fathers’ rights NGO and was sentenced to 15 years in jail on Tuesday for assaulting his underage daughter.

“I am also Ukrainian,” the guy said in his final Facebook post, two days before his death.

“Until this dreadful conflict ends, we should all consider ourselves Ukrainians,” he added.

“It has been reported that it was not an accident but a premeditated act against the Russian representative, the driver having screamed something at the guard,” Russia’s Investigative Committee, which investigates severe crimes, stated.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the building, which is located in a rich part of Bucharest, has been covered by police barricades on the pavement to protect it from any protests.

According to an AFP correspondent on the scene, the street outside was closed to traffic on Wednesday, and forensic, police, and intelligence officers were on the scene.
