Authorities in China predict significant cuts in passenger travel for the upcoming Labor Day vacation as a result of COVID-19 containment efforts, they stated Thursday.

According to Zhou Min, a Ministry of Transport official, 100 million people are scheduled to travel during the five-day holiday from April 30 to May 4, a 62 percent decrease from the previous year.

According to China Train, the country is likely to witness roughly 32 million railway passengers from April 28 to May 5, which is also a relatively low level.
The railway authorities will give assistance for both passenger and freight transit over the vacation to ensure safe travel and a solid economic operation, according to the corporation.

The periodic recurrence of COVID-19 since March has hindered cross-provincial travel. During the holiday, citizens are not permitted to visit to places identified as high-risk or medium-risk for COVID-19.
